Using Oasis montaj in Python

Hello,
I am exploring the Geosoft Python API (geosoft.gxpy) to use it into my Jupyter Notebook environment. However, I currently do not have an active Oasis montaj license. So, I have some inquiries. Is it possible to use the Geosoft Python API (geosoft.gxpy) without installing Oasis montaj? Would installing the free Oasis montaj Viewer be sufficient to enable API functionality?
