Exporting 3D models

Loving the new version of Visible Geology and have been using it since Rowan first released it over a decade ago. I'm wondering if it would be possible to have an option to export the 3D models generated to a .3mf (or other format) for 3D printing? I integrate Visible Geology in my teaching and primarily keep things digital but a physical tactile model to supplement the digital versions could be useful in certain instances.

  • Hi Geoff.

Thanks so much for your feedback.
We have had requests about 3d printing already and logged them in our list of ideas!
It sounds like it would be an amazing feature indeed!
We'll keep you posted if we can work on this in the future.

    Thanks

    Eli

    This is an amazing idea!

Have you printed other tools for teaching purposes? I have the intention to print simple shapes to help explain anisotropic trends. But so far a stress boll does the work pretty well.

    The only way is forward!
  • Thank you Eli for the response. If you need a tester for prints please feel free to reach out. I have been 3D printing for close to a decade now and would be happy to help out.

There are 3D models that are great for teaching already, some for mineralogy and general Earth structure. I teach mapping and structural geology as well so I have Rule of V's models, apparent dip models and fold models printed. Again to compliment what I have students do with Visible Geology. It's nice because you really only need to print one model versus a class set with Visible Geology doing most of the heavy lifting.
