How to relate data records to channel records?

Hi All,
I am reading the this geosoft manual, on page 93 & 94 there is:
Data records are related to the channels by channel number. you have defined three channels, they will be numbered 0, 1 and 2. Channel data records can be in any order(i.e. 0,1,2 or1,0,2) If the channels already exist in the database, the channel parameters are ignored.
My questions are: 1. Let's say if I have read 3 channel records(<01>) and then I see 3 data records(<03>) afterwards, how do I know which data records corresponds to which channel record? According to this manual, data records can be in any order.
2.what does "If the channels already exist in the database, the channel parameters are ignored." mean? Does it mean that if the channels are in the db then there are no channel parameters like: lChannelNumber, lBinaryType, dFidStart?
Also, is there: Geosoft Oasis Montaj 9.2 Quick Start Manual ? What I found online was 7.0 manual. Thank you very much!
