For those who missed our recent webinar on conditional simulation, the recording is now available to view.

A kriging estimator delivered a single "best" grade estimate – best in the sense of minimising estimation error. However, a single "best" estimate was not always the answer to the question at hand. While deterministic grade estimates proved useful for many purposes, they did not allow questions about inherent uncertainty to be addressed.

Conditional simulation provided an alternative method for quantifying uncertainty through the development of an ensemble of equiprobable realisations. This concept was intuitive to most geologists – yet despite simulation methods having been available for decades, they were not widely or routinely used. Our aim at Seequent was to put robust, workflow-based conditional simulation outputs, tailored to users’ needs, into the hands of geologists.

In the webinar, Seequent’s Technical Domain Expert Mike Stewart explored how Leapfrog Geo, the Leapfrog Edge extension, and Seequent Evo together unlocked accessible, cloud-enabled conditional simulation workflows for grade control and resource geologists.

We also stepped through an open pit mining case study, showing how conditional simulation workflows could be practically implemented in projects, enabling teams to realise value from uncertainty.
