Is it possible to start an external program from a GX (say a Fortran program with distinct input and output files) and be notified when the program is completed?

    Yes, you can run an external program using the iRun_SYS function. Within the GX Developer, the source code for winexec GX shows how to run an external program and the available options for the iRun_SYS function.
